Welcome to Vivid Tattoo
If you’re looking for a tattoo shop in Hillcrest, San Diego where the work actually speaks for itself, you’re in the right place.
Vivid Tattoo is part of the Hillcrest community, creating custom tattoos for people all over San Diego, from North Park and Downtown to Mission Hills and beyond.
Whether it’s your first tattoo or your tenth, the goal is simple: make sure you leave with something you’re proud to wear for life.
Custom Tattoos That Mean Something
Every tattoo here starts with a conversation.
Some people walk in with a full idea. Others just have a feeling, a memory, or a concept they want to bring to life.
That’s where our artists come in, helping shape your idea into something clean, intentional, and built to last.
We don’t rush the process, and we don’t do cookie-cutter work. It’s your piece, your story.
Tattoo Services
Most of the work here falls into a few kinds of tattooing. Open any of them for the detail.
Custom tattoos and tattoo design
Custom work is the core of the shop. Bring an idea, a reference or a rough sketch and an artist will work it into a design made for you. A tattoo design consultation is the place to start: you talk through the concept, size and placement before anything is drawn up.
Styles and types of tattoo
Black and grey is a big part of the work here, alongside custom tattoo lettering, memorial tattoos and traditional Asian tattoos. Styles vary by artist, so the best next step is to look through the gallery and meet the artists.
Sleeves and large scale tattoos
Sleeve tattoos, large scale pieces and full body tattoos take planning. Start with a conversation about the overall idea so your artist can map it out before the first session.
Cover-ups, reworkings and touch-ups
Have a tattoo that needs attention? We do tattoo cover-ups and reworkings, touch-ups, and tattoo finishing for pieces that were never completed. Come in so an artist can look at the existing tattoo and tell you what’s possible.
Tattoo aftercare
Aftercare is part of the service. Follow the care instructions you’re given for your tattoo, and contact the shop if you have questions about those instructions.
If you’re not sure what fits your idea yet, that’s completely normal. We’ll help you figure it out.
Vivid also does piercing. See the piercing options.
Our Artists
One of the biggest differences at Vivid Tattoo is the team.
Each artist brings their own style, experience, and approach, but they all share the same focus: quality over shortcuts.
When you come in, we’ll connect you with the right artist for what you’re looking for, so you’re not guessing or hoping it turns out right.
